The Viet Nam Red Cross Society launched a national donation campaign on August 13 to rally support for the Cuban people on the occasion of the Viet Nam – Cuba Friendship Year and the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
The campaign was designed to run for 65 days until October 16, aiming to raise at least VND65 billion (about US$2.56 million) to help Cuba overcome difficulties and further strengthen the countries’ special friendship.
Over the past three days, organizers have mobilized more than VND125 billion (US$4.8 million), far beyond the initial target.
Th fund will be used to provide food, essential supplies, and long-term humanitarian assistance to help Cuba deal with the effects of the pandemic, natural disasters and the impact of blockade and embargo policies.
This initiative also sends a powerful message to the international community: “Viet Nam is always by Cuba’s side as Cuba has always been by Viet Nam’s side.”
