Speaking to the press following the Summit held in Kazan, Russia, on June 17-18, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung said the visit was the first trip to Russia by a key Vietnamese leader following the successful conclusion of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and the introduction of the country's new leadership.

The Summit reaffirmed the strategic importance of ASEAN-Russia relations and adopted key documents, including the Kazan Joint Declaration 2026 and the ASEAN-Russia Action Plan 2026-2030, aimed at promoting more substantive, focused and effective cooperation between the two sides.

Notably, energy was elevated as a new pillar of ASEAN-Russia cooperation and both sides' leaders also discussed expanding cooperation within the broader Eurasian space.

Foreign Minister Le highlighted Viet Nam's significant contributions to the Summit in which Prime Minister Le Minh Hung called for dialogue, confidence-building, peaceful settlement of disputes and respect for international law, while proposing measures to make ASEAN-Russia relations more strategic, resilient and practical.

Viet Nam also put forward initiatives to strengthen energy cooperation, enhance trade and investment connectivity, develop multimodal transport corridors, facilitate trade, and improve agricultural supply-chain resilience.

The Prime Minister announced that Viet Nam will host the ASEAN-Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027, contributing to stronger people-to-people links and long-term trust between the two regions.

On the sidelines of the Summit, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the two leaders reaffirmed their determination to further deepen the Viet Nam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and agreed to effectively implement existing cooperation mechanisms in key areas, including politics, defense-security, energy, oil and gas, nuclear power, trade, education and training.

Both sides noted that many obstacles in bilateral cooperation have been addressed, creating favorable conditions for the implementation of major projects and opening new opportunities for long-term collaboration./.
